The Core group for 2012/2013 was agreed as follows:
Georgi was welcomed back warmly as she is returning to the
Core Group after a years' absence whilst having her third
child.
The co-ordinators of the Action Groups gave reports on their
activities for the year and expressed some of their aims for
2012/13.
Gerald then summarised by saying that the breadth and depth of
the work we are managing is impressive and thanked all those
who have been involved in the work of the group
whether present at the AGM or not. 18 public events had been
held in the past year, which is a record, and these have involved
at least 100 supporters of Sustainable Crediton as
volunteers. Highlights of the year included:
70 houses now having PV panels thanks to the Energy Group's PV project,
community
markets being held on a regular basis due to the efforts
of the Food Group
and
the Waste Group's
organisation of three successful plastic collections and a clothes swap.
Many of those who have taken part are new to Sustainable
Crediton which shows we are managing to reach out to the wider
community. This was also the case when we ran a seminar
with the Town Council in January this year attended by over 80
people.
After the AGM we watched part of a DVD called the Economics
of Happiness, focusing on Localisation, ie creating strong
communities in which food is bought from local sources and there is
an emphasis on local sources of energy. In the discussion
after the DVD we looked at how best to encourage people to move
away from only thinking about their own interests and adopting
a community perpective. Succesful small scale initiatives
which grow organically seem to be the best way of achieving
this.
