Hi,
welcome to the July edition of Sustainable Creditons Newsletter.
It seams the combination of rain and sun has done wonders for the
pollinators, my Jasmine is the best I have ever seen!
Copplestone Recreation Association have adopted a plan to
transform the long slope that runs down from the football
field to the car park (which used to be mown within an inch of its
life) into a Wildflower Bank and pollinator haven.
The grass hasn't been mown since April, and great clumps
of wildflowers have grown up through it: yarrow, self-heal, clover,
oxeye daisies, meadow cranesbill, hawksbeard and
Fox-&-Cubs.
Local volunteers are 'managing' the bank by uprooting rough
docks, thistles and ragwort to ensure they don't take over, and
filling the gaps with extra wildflower plugs grown by another
volunteer: scabious, ladies' bedstraw and extra cranesbill and
self-heal. There will be no more mowing until September.
Here's a couple of photos of our Wildflower Bank. Do
please send photos and stories from the other villages!
If anyone would like to share a local sustainable story and
photos please get in touch.
all the best
