December again! How did that happen?
With the election imminent, it seems we are at a pivotal point
in the fight for a sustainable future and specifically the battle
to gain control of global heating. The journal 'Nature' has
recently waved a red flag about the likelihood that tipping points
are being reached right now. It states:
'politicians, economists and even some natural scientists have
tended to assume that tipping points in the Earth system - such as
the loss of the Amazon rainforest or the West Antarctic ice sheet -
are of low probability and little understood. Yet evidence is
mounting that these events could be more likely than was thought,
have high impacts and are interconnected across different
biophysical systems, potentially committing the world to long-term
irreversible changes.' Further details here.
Whatever the political landscape after 12 December, it's time to
redouble our efforts to bring about change in whatever ways are
available to us: lobbying, letter writing, protesting, being active
with Sustainable Crediton (yes please!) whatever it takes, whatever
works for each of us.
Wishing everyone a happy and peaceful Christmas, and a
super-active New Year!
