Sustainable Crediton Newsletter Issue 50

Welcome to September's Newsletter. After a quiet August we have several events taking place this month which are listed in the What's On section below.

Firstly, we are delighted to announce that Sustainable Crediton has just been awarded a substantial sum from the Rural Community Energy Fund to develop a community-owned renewable energy project. Full details of the grant and the project will be explained in the Crediton Courier on Friday 5th September.

With the Tour of Britain cycle race coming through Crediton, there are two bike events on the 6th and 11th September. The first is the Two Communities Bike Ride as a warm up ride to the main event Bike Fest in the Town Square following the Tour of Britain sprint through Crediton.

Please join us on the 9th September at the new conference suite at Lords Meadow Leisure Centre at 7.30 p.m. to revisit our ideas generated at the Back to the Future Event in January. This will be a short evening gathering to refresh minds and help develop ideas and intentions, and there will be refreshments.

On the 13th September from 10am there will be a Community Market featuring a cookery demonstration by the Devon Chef, Tim Harris.

And finally over the final weekend of the month, we have our regular waste plastics collection at Peck & Strong's, Lords Meadow Industrial Estate from 10 am to 12:30pm on Saturday 27th and on Sunday 28th meet in the Town Square at 11am for the regular monthly cycle ride.

Cycling from Lands End to John O' Groats

I wanted to cycle from Lands End to John O' Groats for the challenge, for almost zero carbon transport and to know my size in relation to my own country, but how? One Sunday someone in Exeter Quaker Meeting spoke the Chinese saying about a journey of a thousand miles starting with one step. O ...
