My sincere apologies if you are receiving this for the second
time this week or if you are only just receiving it for the first
time. We have had some issues with our website server and several
supporters have told us that they haven't received this month 's
newsletter. Hence this additional copy.
Firstly congratulations to Anne Tucker for being runner-up in Recycle Devon's Community Group Recycling Hero
awards. Anne has been responsible for organising our household
waste plastic collections in Crediton for the past two years and
has recently given talks to other community groups about how to set
up their own scheme. Our next waste
plastics collection is taking place on the 29th March from
10:30 to 12:30 at Peck & Strongs.
There is masses going on this month, hopefully something for
everyone. The Food, Energy, Transport, Waste, Woodland and
Hedgerows Groups all have their regular meetings and I know that
new members are welcome to come along. Just contact the relevant
group coordinator through the website.
If you are interested in the future of Mid Devon and Crediton in
particular we have arranged a special session with a MDDC Planner
to go through the MDDC Local Plan on Thursday 6th March 10am at
the Boniface Centre. Please let Gerald
Conyngham know if you intend to come.
We have the eagerly awaited talk "Fracking
- Golden Goose or Dead Duck" taking place at the Boniface
Centre on March 26th from 7:15pm for 7:30pm start as part of Sustainable
Crediton's AGM. Fracking is touted as a way to reduce energy
prices, hailed as a transition fuel on the way to low-carbon
renewables, and welcomed as an energy revolution in the US. But,
Simon Tytherleigh of Sustainable Bradninch will ask is this too
good to be true? Could it be a danger to the environment, and keep
us hooked on fossil fuels and failing to invest in future
technologies? Simon's presentation takes a hard look at all sides
of the argument, and considers fracking in the wider context of our
future energy needs.
If you fancy a bit of easy cycling, then the third of our
regular Boniface Trail rides is taking place on Sunday
30th March leaving the Town Square at 11am and bound for
Salmonhutch and The Lamb at Sandford.
And finally a trailer for an event in April ! The Sustainable
Crediton Energy Group has organised a public meeting about setting
up a community benefit company for generating
electricity in Crediton. The meeting is on Wednesday 9 April,
7.30pm at Crediton Football Club - just by the Leisure Centre so
plenty of parking. The energy group will explain plans so far and
there will be plenty of opportunity to ask questions and discuss
our plans. We hope to form an enthusiastic team to take this
project forward. Please put this in your diaries and come to show
your support, to learn about the project, put forward ideas, or
even to offer help!
