Sustainable Crediton Newsletter Issue 38

We have a busy September with 4 events starting with a waste household plastics collection on Saturday 7th September at Peck & Strong Lords Meadow Industrial Estate from 10am to 12:30pm. Since starting doing these bimonthly collections last year we have collected a total to date of 5.4 tonnes in 9 collections, thats around 375 cubic metre dumpy bags of plastic. This is all saved from landfill and recycled via the group's waste partner Peninsular Waste Services (PWS).

Following on the 14th September, Sustainable Crediton has its monthly Community Market in Town Square. Come to sell or swap surplus garden produce or produce from your smallholding, sell locally produced crafts and non food produce, promote or raise funds for your local organisation. The September Market will feature a Cookery Demonstration by The Devon Chef Tim Harris at 11.00am and lots of music with the "Saga Louts" and friends plus folk music and more in Ashtons Coffee lounge from 11am to 1pm. There will also be another chance to complete our renewable energy survey.

Then on Saturday 21st September, Sustainable Crediton present in conjunction with the Gaia Company " Gaia the Cabaret" at Crediton Arts Centre at 8pm with doors opening at 7:30pm. Entry is £5 on the door or by calling 01363 774412 or online at Eventbrite. This is an evening of songs, sketches and surprises celebrating James Lovelock's Gaia Theory. It was originally commissioned and performed at James Lovelock's 90th birthday party in 2009.

The final major event of the month takes place on the 25th September at 7pm at the Boniface Centre, Crediton. Do you want to cut your heating bills this winter? Then do come to " Cut Heating Bills this Winter" where we have two expert speakers giving practical tips to make our homes more energy efficient and warm in the winter. Entry will be free of charge with refreshments by donation. Brian Harper, the first speaker, runs Energy Tracers, a company that does thermal imaging surveys inside people's homes to identify draughts and areas of heat loss through poor insulation. Brian will cover how to assess homes for heat loss and how to prevent that heat loss with practical DIY tips. Next up will be Mukti Mitchell who sailed around Britain in a 6 month voyage in the revolutionary zero-emission Explorer Microyacht, to promote the benefits of low carbon living. Mukti will be talking about his trip around Britain and how this led to meeting his current business partner and starting CosyHome Company.  He will then move on to how to treat heat loss, esp. Loft Insulation, Draught Proofing and Secondary Glazing, but also a little on wall and floor insulation.
