CCA Newsletter Issue 18
Hi Everyone
I thought I would begin this holiday month by passing on a bit
of good climate related news sent in by Julie Barrie - thanks
Julie:
A giant kite like sail billowed out
in front of MS Beluga SkySails, as she set out on her
maiden voyage from Germany to Venezuela. Following routes
traditionally used by sailing ships, the kite-sail cuts fuel costs
for the cargo ship by roughly $1500 a day. On the pilot voyage from
Bremen to South and North America and back via Norway, engineers on
board studied the SkySails system. The results will soon be
published. The technology can be retrofitted onto nearly all types
of cargo ships, making huge savings in fuel while cutting carbon
emissions by up to 35%.
Enjoy the remaining weeks of summer!!
Paula

I'd like to know how people in general might use our site. Is it
for giving out information such as news and events, educating the
general public about climate change, peak oil, transition towns,
advertising what CCA has to offer? Are there other things we should
be doing on our site?

You may have heard in the news recently that Gordon Brown has
added potential legislation about plastic bags to the Climate
Change Bill. This is great news and we really believe that the war

“"What is opportunity, and when does it knock?" It never knocks. You can wait a whole lifetime, listening, hoping, and you will hear no knocking. None at all. You are opportunity, and you must knock on the door leading to your destiny. You prepare yourself to recognize opportunity, to pursue and seize opportunity as you develop the strength of your personality, and build a self-image with which you are able to live, with your self-respect alive and growing.”
Maxwell Maltz (US plastic surgeon, motivational author, and creator of Psycho-Cybernetics)
